The Sierra Mágina region is located in the central-southern part of the province of Jaén, in the surroundings of the Mágina mountains that gives it its name. It has approximately 60,000 hectares of olive groves, with an average slope greater than 15%, and a balanced proportion of dryland and irrigated olive groves. Almost all of it is traditional olive groves plantations belonging to small scale farmers.
The Sierra Mágina Designation of Origin constitutes an official recognition of the extraordinary quality of the olive oils of this region in Jaen, Andalusia. It has the European union acknowledgement and its support to protect and preserve the traditional way in which the olive oil its elaborated in Sierra Magina.
The olive oils that carry the seal and the numbered back label of Sierra Magina come from olive groves located in the territory, and whose production and packaging must necessarily be carried out in entities registered in the Designation of Origin and within the Sierra Mágina region. They must be harvested and produced according to the strict specifications of the regulatory counsel.
